What's new in Summer 2008?

The Alton Gift is now out in paperback.

Works in progress: I turned in the first volume of The Seven-Petaled Shield and am now working on Hastur Lord, the next Darkover novel. I'm also reading for Lace and Blade 2, which promises to be just as delectable and romantic as the first volume.

In July, I participated in livelongnmarry, a fandom auction to protect marriage equality in California, first by offering an autographed copy of The Alton Gift, and then organizing a patchwork afghan, knitted and crocheted by community members.

Welcome to the home page of Deborah J. Ross -- writer, teacher, martial artist, library fairy-godmother, dancer, mother, ex-chiropractor, refugee from Los Angeles. I started writing as Deborah Wheeler, and you can still find my books and short stories under that name. To find out more, click on Past Lives.

My misspent youth was passed in California and Oregon, growing my hair long, protesting everything and gathering useless academic degrees (bachelors in biology, masters in psychology, doctorate in chiropractic) before realizing the true "work of my heart" was storytelling. In between all this, I studied martial arts (tai chi chuan with Marshall Ho'o and kung fu san soo with Jimmy H. Woo), taught physiology, lived in France, struggled to maintain a literary career as a single working mom. Now I live in a redwood forest with my second husband, writer Dave Trowbridge, and work part time as a medical assistant to a cardiologist to give my brain a break from writing.
